Dangote Slashes Petrol Ex‑Depot Price to ₦699 per Litre

By Erewunmi Peace

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a significant reduction in the ex-depot (gantry) price of petrol, bringing it down to ₦699 per litre, down from the previous rate of ₦828 per litre. The adjustment took effect on December 11, 2025, and marks one of the most substantial petrol price reductions this year.

According to the refinery, the move is part of ongoing efforts to increase fuel accessibility, reduce costs for consumers, and enhance competitiveness in the Nigerian downstream petroleum sector. This latest cut also reflects improved production efficiency and supply stability at the refinery.

Industry experts say the price reduction at the refinery level could translate into lower pump prices, though the final retail cost will depend on local marketers, transportation costs, and other market factors. The adjustment is expected to positively impact commuters, transport operators, and households, particularly with the festive season approaching.

This is the 20th price adjustment by Dangote Petroleum Refinery in 2025, highlighting the dynamic nature of fuel pricing in the country and the refinery’s proactive approach to managing supply and demand. Analysts anticipate that other marketers may revise their own ex-depot and pump prices to remain competitive in the market.

The move has been widely welcomed by Nigerians, with many expressing optimism that the reduction could ease financial pressure, especially on transport and logistics operators. However, some caution that monitoring is necessary to ensure the decrease is reflected at the retail level, not just at the refinery gantries.
