The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a traditional ruler in Edo State over allegations involving the diversion of approximately ₦250 million belonging to a host community development fund.

The monarch, Michael Sado, who serves as the traditional ruler of Okpella, was reportedly taken into custody following a petition submitted to the anti-corruption agency.
According to reports, the petition accused the monarch of mismanaging funds allocated to the community through a development agreement involving Dangote Cement.

The funds were reportedly intended to support development projects and social initiatives within the host community.

Sources indicated that the petitioners alleged that a separate account was opened under the name “Okpella Community Development,” with the monarch reportedly serving as the sole signatory to the account.

The EFCC has confirmed that the arrest was made to allow investigators question the monarch and review documents related to the alleged financial transactions.

Officials of the anti-graft agency stated that investigations are ongoing and that further legal action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.

The development has attracted attention within the community, with residents expressing concerns about transparency and the management of development funds intended for local projects.

Authorities have assured that due process will be followed as the investigation continues.
