An Ekiti-based farm manager has narrated his alleged 42-day ordeal in captivity after being abducted by suspected kidnappers, claiming that he remained in the wilderness even after his family paid a ₦17 million ransom.

The victim, identified as Omogbolahan Emmanuel Olaniyi, said the incident occurred around October 2025 near the Ekiti–Kogi border, an area that has recorded cases of insecurity in recent times.

Alleged Abduction and Ransom Payment
According to his account, he was kidnapped while carrying out his farm duties and taken into a forested area where he was held alongside other captives. He claimed that despite the payment of ₦17 million by his family to secure his release, he was not immediately freed.

He further stated that he eventually regained his freedom after spending 42 days in captivity, describing the experience as traumatic and life-threatening.

Growing Security Concerns
The incident has renewed concerns about security challenges in parts of Ekiti and neighboring states, particularly in rural communities and border areas.

Kidnapping for ransom has remained a major security issue in several regions of Nigeria, with victims often held for extended periods while negotiations take place.
