FCTA Seals PDP National Headquarters Over 28 Years of Unpaid Ground Rent
By Erewunmi Peace
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sealed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat, popularly known as Wadata Plaza, over decades of unpaid ground rent.
Officials from the FCT Department of Development Control carried out the enforcement on Monday as part of a wider clampdown on properties owing outstanding land charges across Abuja.
According to the FCTA, the property accumulated 28 years of unpaid ground rent, amounting to about ₦7.6 million. As a result, the administration revoked the building’s title and shut down the premises.
FCT Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, confirmed that the revocation notice was served to the legal owner of the building — former Senate Leader Sen. Samaila Mamman Kofi — and not to the PDP. He noted that Wadata Plaza was among several parcels of land affected by the enforcement exercise.
The FCT Minister’s aide, Lere Olayinka, also reiterated that the property does not belong to the PDP, emphasizing that the action was purely administrative and not politically motivated.
The PDP, however, condemned the move, describing it as “an abuse of power” and accusing the government of targeting the opposition. Party leaders reportedly held an emergency meeting following the closure.
So far, there have been no reports of fire, violence, or any obstruction by Governor Bala Mohammed or Minister Nyesom Wike, contrary to circulating online claims.
The FCTA says the sealing of properties will continue until all outstanding land dues across the Federal Capital Territory are settled.
