By Damilola Adeleke

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), with a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, is now operational.

NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, disclosed this during a tour of the Delta State facility on Monday. While noting that the project is not yet 100% complete, Kyari emphasized the refinery’s current operational state as a testament to the company’s commitment to reviving Nigeria’s oil sector.“

People doubt that such achievements are possible in this country. Today, we’re demonstrating that it is,” Kyari stated.Accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, Kyari expressed optimism about the refinery’s ability to boost production and contribute significantly to the south and southwest markets.

Established in 1978 and located in Warri, the WRPC produces 13,000 metric tons of polypropylene and 18,000 metric tons of carbon black annually.
