Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed concern over the movement of terrorists and bandits from the Northwest into the state due to intensified military operations in their original zones.
Speaking at the 2025 annual inter-faith service held at the Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, Governor Makinde assured residents that his administration is committed to addressing the threat and ensuring the safety of Oyo State.
“The year 2024 was challenging, particularly in terms of safety and security. We had incidents of fire outbreaks, armed robberies, and kidnappings. In 2025, we will double our efforts to address these issues,” Makinde stated.
The governor revealed a recent close call during his birthday retreat, where bandits had camped less than two kilometers away from his location. “This underscores the seriousness of the situation,” he said, emphasizing the need for vigilance.
Governor Makinde urged traditional rulers and residents to report suspicious movements promptly, stating, “To our traditional rulers and all residents, this is no joke. If you see suspicious movements, report them immediately.”
He assured the public that the state government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring Oyo State remains safe, declaring, “For us in Oyo, bandits will have no foothold. I will not sleep until every inch of this state is safe.”
The influx of terrorists into Oyo State highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerian states, particularly in the North, where banditry and terrorism have led to loss of lives, kidnappings, and community destabilization.
Residents are encouraged to stay alert and cooperate with security agencies as the government intensifies its efforts to maintain peace and order in the region.
