Edo State Gets New Commissioner of Police

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Betty Enekpen Otimenyin as the new Commissioner of Police for Edo State. This announcement, made on Thursday, January 16, 2025, comes as the current Commissioner of Police, CP Peter Umoru, prepares for his retirement on January 25, 2025.
In a statement, Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations for the PSC, highlighted Otimenyin’s extensive career. She began her policing journey in Bauchi State Command and has served in various capacities, including Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Plateau and Edo Commands. Additionally, she held the position of Assistant Commissioner of Police Administration in Kebbi State and at the Nigerian Ports Authority’s Western Port in Lagos State. Her roles have also included Area Commander in Eleme, Rivers State, and Mbaitoli, Imo State.
Before this appointment, Otimenyin was the Commissioner of Police Administration in the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja.DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), Chairman of the PSC, advised Otimenyin to approach her new role with dedication and assured her of the Commission’s support to ensure her success. The Commission also emphasized that her performance will be closely monitored.
The official confirmation of her appointment was communicated to the Inspector General of Police through a letter signed by Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.
This appointment marks a significant milestone as Edo State welcomes a new Commissioner of Police, whose wealth of experience promises enhanced policing and service delivery.
