PDP Deputy Spokesperson Sparks Leadership Crisis

By Damilola Adeleke

The internal conflicts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Friday as the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, disavowed actions taken by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdulahi.

In a controversial press conference in Abuja, Abdulahi overturned the party’s earlier endorsement of the Rivers State executive committee aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He also accused Ologunagba of misrepresenting the decisions of the National Working Committee (NWC) regarding key issues, including a court ruling on Rivers State congresses and the National Secretary’s position.

Ologunagba rejected Abdulahi’s statements, clarifying that Abdulahi was not authorized to represent the party and had violated established protocols. He emphasized that only the National Publicity Secretary is constitutionally empowered to speak on behalf of the PDP.

Abdulahi, however, insisted that he acted on directives from the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum. He accused Ologunagba of unilateral actions and misinforming the public, specifically about a court ruling validating the Rivers State executive.

The crisis has also brought to light disputes over the party’s National Secretary position, with Abdulahi supporting Senator Sam Anyanwu and Ologunagba maintaining that Abdulahi’s claims were unfounded.

As tensions escalate, Ologunagba called for strict adherence to the PDP constitution, warning that Abdulahi’s actions could damage the party’s reputation.
