Senate Suspends 2025 Budget Defence for Auditor General’s Office

By Damilola Adeleke

The Nigerian Senate has suspended the 2025 budget defence for the Office of the Auditor General for the Federation (OAGF), raising concerns about a possible zero allocation. The suspension comes just 24 hours before the deadline for budget defence presentations.

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts, chaired by Senator Ahmed Wadada, dismissed Auditor General S.K. Chira and his team due to inadequate preparation and mishandling of documents.

The Senate had previously set January 22, 2025, as the final day for budget defences to allow the Appropriation Committee to harmonize reports from various committees.
