Tinubu Hails Obasanjo at 88

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm birthday wishes to former President Olusegun Obasanjo as he marks his 88th birthday.

In a heartfelt tribute, Tinubu described Obasanjo as an extraordinary leader whose contributions to Nigeria’s development have been profound. Recalling his military and political career, he highlighted Obasanjo’s role in receiving Biafra’s surrender in 1970, his leadership following General Murtala Mohammed’s assassination in 1976, and his pivotal return as a civilian president in 1999.

Tinubu acknowledged Obasanjo’s impact on governance, national unity, and global diplomacy, noting his continuous influence in shaping policies and advocating for peace in Africa and beyond. While recognizing his sometimes controversial stance on national issues, the president commended Obasanjo’s dedication to good governance and nation-building.

He wished the former leader good health and longevity, emphasizing the importance of his wisdom and experience for Nigeria and Africa. On behalf of the Nigerian government and citizens, Tinubu expressed gratitude and appreciation for Obasanjo’s service, wishing him a happy 88th birthday.
