The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed a massive consignment of expired, falsified, unregistered, and banned medicines seized from the Idumota Open Drug Market in Lagos.
In a statement released on Sunday, the agency confirmed that the confiscated drugs, valued at approximately ₦100 billion, were intercepted during a three-week-long reinforcement operation.
The destruction exercise took place at the Lapite Dumpsite in Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State. Several suspects linked to the illicit trade were arrested, and those found guilty will face appropriate sanctions, NAFDAC stated.
This latest operation reinforces the agency’s commitment to eradicating the circulation of counterfeit pharmaceuticals and safeguarding public health.
