El-Rufai Appointed as SDP National Leader Amid Internal Backlash

By Damilola Adeleke
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has appointed former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai, as its new national leader, just days after he officially joined the party.
The decision has sparked controversy within the SDP, with a faction known as The Integrity Group rejecting the move, calling it “disrespectful” to longstanding party members.
While the party leadership believes El-Rufai’s political influence will strengthen the SDP, internal critics argue that his rapid rise to leadership undermines the party’s principles. As tensions rise, party stakeholders are calling for unity to maintain stability ahead of future elections.
