“I Have Not Been Kidnapped, My Wife Was Lied To” – Ex-Rivers HOS, George Nwaeke

By Damilola Adeleke
Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has dismissed reports of his alleged kidnapping, clarifying that he is safe in Abuja.
In a video circulating on social media, Nwaeke reacted to an earlier interview given by his wife, Florence Nwaeke, who claimed that he had been abducted and forced to make statements against the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
Clarification on Kidnapping Allegations
Nwaeke had recently accused Fubara, his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, and one Chijioke Ihunwo of plotting to bomb the Rivers State House of Assembly and some oil pipelines. His wife, however, claimed he was coerced into making those allegations.
Speaking from Transcorp Hotel in Abuja, Nwaeke said:
“I came in here this morning to meet with security agencies to report myself and the things happening in Rivers State. I was the Head of Service until Monday, March 24, when I resigned due to the ongoing crisis.”
Addressing his wife’s claims, he continued:
“After my press interview, I saw a video of my wife trending. She was fed false information and made to believe that I had been kidnapped. A script was written for her to say all sorts of things.”
“I want to make it clear—I have not been kidnapped. I am in Abuja, staying at Transcorp Hotel. My wife does not know the details of my work, and I don’t discuss office matters with her. The statements attributed to her do not reflect the truth.”
Political Tension in Rivers State
Nwaeke’s resignation and subsequent allegations come amid heightened political tension in Rivers State. The dispute between Governor Fubara and his former ally, Nyesom Wike, has created a deep political divide in the state.
While some see Nwaeke’s allegations as evidence of internal conflicts, others believe he may have been pressured into making statements against Fubara.
The controversy continues to unfold, with various political figures and stakeholders weighing in on the matter.
