Man Dies After Driver Refuses to Help, Fearing Bloodstains in Her Car

By Damilola Adeleke

A Nigerian man, Adetunji Opayele, popularly known as TeeJay, has tragically lost his life after being struck by a car while riding his bike. The driver, identified as Biola Adams-Odutayo, allegedly refused to take him to the hospital, citing concerns that his blood would stain her car.

The incident, which has sparked public outrage, occurred on March 4, 2025. TeeJay, who was the Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Bumpa, had just finished a workout at iFitness gym in Victoria Island and was on his way home when the crash happened.

How the Accident Happened

According to a petition seeking justice for him, TeeJay was riding along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road at around 10:20 PM when Biola, driving a vehicle with license plate LND 418 JR, entered the expressway without checking for oncoming traffic and crashed into him.

Biola and her friend had just left a restaurant where they had dinner. Despite having a driver, she decided to drive herself while her driver operated her friend’s car behind them.

Although TeeJay was wearing full safety gear, he was knocked unconscious by the impact.

Driver Refused to Help

Eyewitnesses rushed to help and pleaded with Biola to take TeeJay to the hospital, but she allegedly refused to step out of her vehicle. When they approached her friend for assistance, they were reportedly told, “She doesn’t want blood to stain her car.”

Biola, a healthcare professional and Head of Health at a reputable insurance brokerage firm, remained on a phone call for over 30 minutes while TeeJay lay on the ground fighting for his life.

Struggles to Save TeeJay

Bystanders struggled to find a vehicle willing to transport TeeJay to the hospital. Many cars refused to stop, but eventually, an Uber driver agreed to assist. However, two hospitals refused to admit him.

Desperate, the rescuers returned to the accident scene and placed TeeJay in a minibus (korope), insisting that Biola accompany them, hoping her presence would prevent further rejections. She reluctantly complied, reportedly only staying because bystanders physically blocked her from fleeing.

At 11:30 PM, TeeJay’s brother received a call about the accident and rushed to the scene. A good Samaritan who had safeguarded TeeJay’s belongings handed them over and accompanied him to the hospital. Sadly, past midnight, TeeJay was pronounced dead.

Public Outrage and Calls for Justice

The heartbreaking incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians calling for justice. A petition highlighting the tragic event is now circulating online, demanding accountability for TeeJay’s death.
