Coalition Against Tinubu is a Waste of Time – Ayo Fayose

By Damilola Adeleke
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has dismissed the coalition of opposition political parties aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, calling it a “waste of time.”
Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), criticized the movement—championed by Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai—during an interview with Channels TV on Friday, April 18.
“The coalition is a dead horse ab initio. Tell me one respected Nigerian who has publicly backed it,” Fayose said.
He argued that internal divisions within the PDP make the coalition efforts unviable, emphasizing that most PDP governors are distancing themselves from Atiku and focusing on their own political survival.
“The PDP governors’ actions and statements in Ibadan are a message to Atiku: ‘We are not with you.’ That coalition is just imagination,” he added.
Fayose also stressed that the PDP itself needs internal restructuring before it can mount a serious challenge against the APC in 2027.
Earlier this week, PDP governors firmly stated that the party would not merge with any other political party, but remained open to welcoming new groups or individuals interested in joining forces to promote effective leadership.
