Lagos Seals Lekki Restaurant for Dumping Raw Sewage Into Public Drain

By Erewunmi Peace

The Lagos State Government has sealed Ejanla Restaurant in Lekki for allegedly discharging raw and untreated sewage into a public drainage system, causing health and environmental concerns in the area.

The enforcement was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) at No. 40 Fola Osibo Street, Lekki Phase 1, following reports of offensive odour and suspected wastewater pollution.

According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the restaurant was discovered using a pumping machine to channel raw sewage directly into the public drain — an act considered hazardous to public health.

“The restaurant was sealed for deliberately discharging raw sewage into public drains, creating an offensive environment and endangering lives. Lagos will not tolerate practices that compromise public health,”
Wahab said in a statement.

Wahab warned that similar enforcement actions would continue across the state to ensure compliance with environmental laws and protect residents from health risks linked to sewage pollution.

He urged businesses to install proper wastewater treatment systems and adhere strictly to environmental guidelines to avoid sanctions.

Officials of the Wastewater Management Office confirmed that the restaurant will remain closed until corrective measures are taken and full compliance is achieved.
