Nigerians Stand with Tinubu — Sanwo-Olu Fires Back at ADC‑Led Opposition Speculation

By Erewunmi Peace

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu has dismissed recent speculation that Nigerians may align with an emerging ADC‑led opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting instead that the majority will support President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to journalists and party stakeholders on Friday, Sanwo‑Olu described the ADC’s outreach as a strategic “ploy to distract the Commander‑in‑Chief” and derail economic gains such as ongoing social and structural reforms.

“The target is to distract the Commander‑in‑Chief and derail the social and economic gains that we can see and feel, but President Tinubu knows the game and will never fall for their bait,” he emphasized, maintaining that Nigerians remain committed to Tinubu’s agenda.

He added that Tinubu’s track record of bold reforms—like subsidy removal, election of infrastructure projects, and financial stabilization—has deepened public confidence in his leadership.

Sanwo‑Olu also stressed that despite high-profile endorsements by Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar—the key opposition figures now united under the ADC umbrella—Nigerians will continue to stand behind Tinubu in the 2027 polls.

Political Landscape Ahead of 2027

New ADC Coalition: Opposition heavyweights Atiku and Obi have joined ADC’s interim platform under David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, solidifying their alliance for the future election .

Ruling Party Consolidation: Sanwo‑Olu’s remarks reinforce Lagos State and other APC strongholds are fully aligned with Tinubu’s leadership .

Stakes for 2027

Side Strengths Challenges

Tinubu & APC Infrastructure delivery, subsidy reforms, party unity in key states Economic hardship from reforms, opposition realignment
ADC Coalition Unified major opposition, growing momentum New party weak in structures, needs grassroots reach

Governor Sanwo‑Olu’s message is unambiguous: Nigerians are expected to “stand with Tinubu” heading into 2027, dismissing the ADC-led push as distraction rather than a true challenge. As the nation edges closer to the next general election, political tensions deepen, with both camps ramping up mobilization efforts.
