Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has announced a new addition to its prestigious award initiatives — The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, with a $20,000 cash prize set aside for the winner.

According to reports, the new prize aims to encourage young, emerging Nigerian filmmakers, particularly those within the 18–35 age bracket, to showcase exceptional talent in documentary storytelling.

For its maiden edition, the award focuses on short documentary films with the theme “Identity”, highlighting stories that reflect Nigerian heritage, culture, and societal values.

Renowned Nollywood icon Sam Dede has been named chairman of the prize advisory board, signaling NLNG’s commitment to creative excellence and industry credibility.

Key details announced:

Prize value: USD $20,000

Focus: Short documentary film

Target group: Young Nigerian filmmakers (18–35)

Theme: “Identity”

Entries open: February 2026

Entries close: April 2026

With this new initiative, NLNG expands its long-standing support for national talent, which already includes the Nigeria Prize for Literature and the Nigeria Prize for Science — among the most respected awards in Africa.

Industry watchers say the new Creative Arts Prize will provide stronger opportunities for emerging filmmakers, allowing them to gain visibility, funding, and international exposure.

The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts is expected to become an annual platform for promoting Nigeria’s creative economy and inspiring youth-driven storytelling.
