Osun 2026: Adeleke’s Alleged APC Move Jolts PDP, Reshapes Election Battle

By Erewunmi Peace

Fresh political tension is brewing in Osun State as rumors swirl around a possible defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 governorship elections. The speculation has sent ripples through both major parties, potentially reshaping the political landscape in the state.

The alleged move gained traction following Governor Adeleke’s recent high-profile visit to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja. The visit, which included his brother, billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke, and global music star Davido, sparked intense debate on social media and within political circles. Unverified reports claim that a defection deal may have been brokered during the closed-door meeting.

However, Governor Adeleke’s camp has swiftly debunked the speculation. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor described the rumors as “false, unfounded, and politically motivated.”

“Governor Adeleke remains a proud member of the PDP. He is fully committed to his administration’s five-point development agenda and focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State,” the statement read.

Despite the denial, political observers note that the mere suggestion of a switch has already impacted strategic planning in both the PDP and APC. Analysts suggest that a possible Adeleke defection could tilt the balance of power in Osun, especially given his current popularity and strong grassroots support.

Within the PDP, party loyalists are reportedly uneasy, with internal consultations intensifying to reaffirm the governor’s allegiance. Meanwhile, sources within the APC claim the party would welcome Adeleke if he decided to cross over, citing his political weight and influence.

Osun residents remain watchful, as the state heads into another competitive electoral season. Whether the rumor turns out to be a political distraction or a prelude to a realignment, one thing is clear: the road to Osun 2026 has taken a dramatic new turn.
