Retired US Colonel Claims Ownership as Police Intercept 300 Rounds of Ammunition in Lagos

By Erewunmi Peace

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has intercepted a consignment containing 300 rounds of live 9mm ammunition, alongside vehicles and assorted contraband items, during an intelligence-led operation carried out this week.

According to police authorities, the ammunition was concealed inside a shipment sent from the United States and addressed to a Lagos-based clearing agent. Five suspects linked to the consignment have been arrested.

FCID investigators revealed that a man who identified himself as Sunny Nwadiri, a self-proclaimed retired US Marine Colonel, attempted to claim ownership of the ammunition. However, police say the claim remains unverified, as he failed to provide valid documentation or credible proof linking him to the seized items.

The consignment’s declared sender, identified as Maria Adeyemi, is said to be a US-based Nigerian whose role in the shipment is now under investigation.

Police say efforts are ongoing to unravel the full network behind the illegal arms movement, trace the origins of the ammunition, and determine its intended destination within Nigeria.

Authorities have assured the public that FCID is intensifying its crackdown on arms trafficking, cybercrime, and other organized criminal activities across Lagos and other parts of the country.
