By Erewunmi Peace

A judicial commission of inquiry has submitted a comprehensive report to the Sokoto State Government, alleging that over ₦117 billion was misappropriated during the administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

The report was handed over to Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Government House, highlighting widespread financial irregularities, including breaches of existing laws, non-compliance with due process, and abuse of office.

Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga (rtd), the chairman of the commission, stated that the inquiry was established to scrutinize the conduct of the previous administration using verified records and sworn testimonies. The findings reportedly revealed that the misappropriation stemmed from violations of procurement regulations, weak financial controls, and misuse of executive power.

The report is organized into five main sections, which include:

  1. Background of the inquiry
  2. Testimonies received
  3. Detailed findings
  4. Recommendations
  5. Summary and conclusion to guide future government actions

Justice Pindiga praised the commission members for their dedication and professionalism, emphasizing the work was conducted without fear or favor. He expressed gratitude to the public and institutions that cooperated throughout the inquiry.

In response, Governor Ahmed Aliyu commended the commission for their thoroughness in handling this sensitive matter. He announced that a committee would be established to analyze the report and prepare a white paper, stressing that the review process would be fair and sincere for all individuals mentioned in the findings.

As Sokoto State moves forward, the implications of this report could have significant consequences for the officials involved and the political landscape of the region.
