Tinubu Approves Establishment of Federal University of Science and Technology in Lagos

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new federal university in Lagos State, to be known as the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe.
The approval followed the signing of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe (Establishment) Bill, 2025, which was announced by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
The university is expected to focus on science, engineering and emerging technology fields including mechanical, electrical, civil and computer engineering as well as software engineering, artificial intelligence and data science — in line with the Federal Government’s push for technological advancement.
The decision, however, comes despite a seven-year moratorium previously placed on the creation of new federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education — a move that may spark questions on policy consistency.
Education stakeholders say the new institution could help expand access to tertiary education in the South-West and strengthen Nigeria’s long-term workforce capacity in high-tech industries.

More details regarding take-off funding, campus development and admissions timetable are expected from the Federal Ministry of Education in due course.
