Tinubu Postpones G20, AU‑EU Trips, Orders Increased Security Deployment to Kwara

By Erewunmi Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his trips to the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and the AU‑EU Summit in Angola following a spike in insecurity in parts of Nigeria.

The decision comes after the Christ Apostolic Church attack in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, Kwara State, which left several worshippers dead and others abducted. President Tinubu has directed a targeted security deployment to the affected communities, ordering police, military, and other security agencies to stabilize the situation and pursue the attackers.

The move was reportedly made at the request of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who had called for federal support to protect residents and prevent further attacks.

The Presidency described the postponement as a precautionary measure to allow for consultations with security chiefs and ensure adequate response to the crisis. While the trips have been postponed, they are not permanently canceled.

Security agencies are said to be actively deployed to Eruku and Ekiti LGA, with additional troops and police personnel assigned to protect schools, churches, and other vulnerable areas. Officials have assured the public that steps are being taken to restore peace and prevent further attacks.

The incident highlights the growing concern over insecurity in parts of Kwara State and underscores the federal government’s commitment to protecting citizens in affected communities.
