Why Adeleke Should Account for Osun’s ₦1 Trillion
By Erewunmi Peace
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to give a detailed account of how over ₦1 trillion allegedly accrued to the state under his administration was spent between November 2022 and September 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party accused the state government of financial mismanagement and lack of transparency, urging the governor to publish a full record of receipts and expenditures for public scrutiny.
According to the APC, the alleged ₦1 trillion includes allocations from the Federation Account, internally generated revenue (IGR), and other financial inflows received during Adeleke’s tenure. The party further claimed that the amount covers ₦25 billion received between November and December 2022, ₦182 billion in 2023, ₦333 billion in 2024, and about ₦310 billion between January and September 2025.
“The people of Osun deserve to know how these enormous funds have been utilized. Despite the huge inflows, most sectors, including education, agriculture, and infrastructure, are underfunded,” the APC alleged.
The opposition party also accused the administration of failing to implement major developmental projects across the state, describing Adeleke’s performance as “deceptive and unsustainable.”
Reacting to the allegations, the Osun State Government described the ₦1 trillion claim as false, misleading, and politically motivated.
In a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the government said the APC’s figures were fabricated and not backed by any verifiable records.
“The opposition is spreading falsehood to discredit the governor’s achievements. The Adeleke administration has maintained full transparency in fiscal management, with all budgetary performance reports publicly available on the state website,” the statement read.
The government also cited recent commendations from the Office of the Auditor-General for maintaining accountability in public finance and ensuring regular publication of financial statements.
Governor Adeleke, who assumed office in November 2022, has repeatedly pledged to run a transparent and people-oriented administration. His government recently presented its 2025 budget proposal estimated at ₦390 billion, prioritizing infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Political observers, however, say the ongoing exchange between the APC and the state government reflects the heated political climate ahead of future elections in Osun State.
