By Erewunmi Peace

Former Minister of Interior and interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has called for urgent political change in Nigeria, citing rising hardship and insecurity.

Speaking at an affirmation ceremony in Lagos, Aregbesola formally welcomed several stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) into the ADC, stressing that the time has come to end what he described as the “failing political order.”

“The current political structure has failed Nigerians. We must act now to rescue this country,” Aregbesola declared, warning that the increasing cost of living and worsening security crisis demand immediate action.

The former minister emphasized the need for inclusive governance, pledging that the ADC will allocate 50% of elective and appointive positions to youth and women. According to him, women will get 35% representation, while youths will occupy another 35%, with overlapping opportunities to strengthen participation.

Key Highlights from Aregbesola’s Speech:

The existing political order must end for Nigeria to progress.

ADC promises 50% inclusion for youth and women in leadership positions.

Urged Nigerians to unite under a new political movement to rescue the country from poverty, insecurity, and bad governance.

The Lagos event marks a significant move by the ADC to position itself as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Quote:

“When good people unite, Nigerians win,” Aregbesola said, urging citizens to take ownership of the nation’s future.

This political realignment comes amid growing discontent over economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures, fueling calls for an alternative political structure.
