“‘If It’s the Last Thing I Do’: Elon Musk Declares War on GOP Lawmakers Backing Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful’ Bill”

By Erewunmi Peace

In a dramatic political turn, Elon Musk has openly declared his opposition to former President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping piece of legislation that has divided the Republican Party. Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has vowed to fund primary challengers against any GOP lawmakers who vote in favor of the bill, which he slammed as a “debt bomb.”

“Any member of Congress who campaigns on reducing spending and then votes for this bill should hang their head in shame — and they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk wrote on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), on Sunday night.

The so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” — which combines infrastructure, tax reforms, and sweeping federal programs — has been touted by Trump as a legacy-defining legislative move. Critics, including Musk, argue it would drastically increase the national debt and contradict core conservative values of fiscal restraint.

In a series of follow-up posts, Musk hinted at the formation of a new political movement or party — possibly dubbed the “America Party” — and urged citizens to reject politicians who prioritize party loyalty over public accountability.

“We need a party that puts principle over personality, and logic over legacy,” Musk said.

The billionaire’s comments have sent shockwaves through Washington, where several moderate Republicans are reportedly reconsidering their support for the bill. Some GOP strategists now fear Musk’s financial muscle could significantly impact next year’s primaries.

Political analysts note that Musk’s interference in the political arena is not new, but this may mark his most direct threat to Republican incumbents to date.

“This is Elon Musk openly waging political war — not just with Trump, but with the GOP establishment,” said political analyst Julia Reynard.

As the Senate prepares for a final vote, all eyes are on Capitol Hill — and on Musk, who seems more determined than ever to reshape the future of American politics.
