EFCC Raids Abuja Hotel, Arrests 74 Suspected Internet Fraudsters, Recovers Pistol

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 74 suspected internet fraudsters following a major sting operation at Joyous Hotel, located in the Nyanya area of Abuja.

The raid, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 30, 2025, was part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on cybercrime and financial fraud across the country.

In a statement released by the EFCC, the agency disclosed that its operatives stormed the hotel following actionable intelligence linking the premises to a network of cybercrime activities.

During the operation, 86 mobile phones, a locally made rifle-type pistol, and three motorcycles were recovered from the suspects. The hotel was subsequently sealed as part of ongoing investigations.

”The suspects have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the EFCC confirmed.

The identities of the suspects have not yet been made public, but the commission assured the public that due legal process will be followed.

The EFCC has intensified its crackdown on internet-related crimes in recent months, with similar operations carried out in Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, and other parts of the country.

This latest raid underscores the Commission’s commitment to curbing financial crimes and restoring public trust in Nigeria’s digital and financial systems.
