FG Declares Friday, September 5, Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The announcement was made in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In the statement, the Minister congratulated all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the world on the occasion, urging them to reflect on the Prophet’s exemplary life of love, humility, tolerance, and compassion. He also called on Nigerians of all faiths to embrace peace and unity as the nation continues to navigate social and economic challenges.

“The government remains committed to fostering national harmony and security. We urge citizens to use this occasion to pray for the progress of Nigeria,” the statement read.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is an annual Islamic celebration observed globally to honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad. In Nigeria, it is often marked with prayers, lectures, and community gatherings.

The Federal Government’s declaration means that Friday will be observed as a work-free day nationwide.
