Rivers Administrator Ibas Vows to Restore Law and Order After Meeting Tinubu

By Damilola Adeleke

The newly appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has reaffirmed his commitment to restoring law and order in the state. Speaking after his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ibas emphasized that his primary responsibility is to ensure stability in Rivers.

Ibas was appointed following Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers due to prolonged political turmoil. The decision also led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The crisis escalated after a Supreme Court ruling reinstated the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly, deepening political tensions in the oil-rich state.

Addressing the press after his appointment, Ibas acknowledged the challenging circumstances that led to the state of emergency. He stated that President Tinubu had made the situation clear in his national broadcast and that his immediate task is to work with all stakeholders to restore peace, order, and security in Rivers.

“For any meaningful activities to take place in Rivers State, law and order must be maintained,” Ibas said. “I will collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure stability in the state and uphold the security of its residents.”

The political crisis in Rivers continues to generate nationwide reactions, with the Senate expected to deliberate further on the state of emergency and the suspension of Governor Fubara. Meanwhile, concerns remain about the long-term impact of the decision on governance and democracy in the state.
