ALGON Recognizes Reinstated Osun Council Chairmen, Questions Adeleke’s Election

By Damilola Adeleke

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has officially affirmed the legitimacy of the reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) council chairmen and councillors in Osun State.

This decision follows a Court of Appeal ruling on February 10, 2025, which invalidated the local government elections conducted under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

In a letter to the Osun ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, the national body emphasized its commitment to the rule of law and condemned the political unrest that ensued after the judgment. ALGON also expressed concern over the destruction of lives and properties, including the tragic death of a member, Hon. Abbas.

“We extend our condolences and hope for an end to such incidents,” the statement read. The association reiterated its stance as a law-abiding organization, pledging to uphold the Court of Appeal’s decision by recognizing the APC-backed council officials as the rightful officeholders.

Furthermore, ALGON vowed to collaborate with the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to facilitate the smooth resumption of local government workers in Osun State.
