By Erewunmi Peace

The Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced two notorious drug traffickers, Ajetsibo Emami and Solomon Akpomuai, to a combined 10 years in prison for drug-related offenses.

Justice Akintayo Aluko delivered the judgment after the duo was found guilty of conspiracy and trafficking in cannabis sativa. According to court records, Emami, 37, received six years imprisonment, while Akpomuai, 51, was handed four years. Both were also given an option to pay ₦50 million fines each in lieu of serving jail time.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) secured the convictions after intercepting large consignments of cannabis and arresting the convicts following extensive surveillance operations.

Reacting to the development, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the judiciary for its support in the fight against narcotics.

“This is a clear indication that Nigeria will win the war against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. The NDLEA will continue to pursue a balanced strategy of enforcement, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation,” Marwa said.

Key Details:

Ajetsibo Emami: 6 years imprisonment OR ₦50 million fine.

Solomon Akpomuai: 4 years imprisonment OR ₦50 million fine.

Conviction followed the recovery of large quantities of cannabis.

The NDLEA boss reiterated his agency’s determination to dismantle drug cartels and bring offenders to justice, urging Nigerians to join the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
