Dangote Refinery Halts Petrol Sales in Naira

By Damilola Adeleke

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has temporarily stopped selling petroleum products in naira. This decision was communicated to petroleum marketers through an official notice on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the refinery, the suspension aims to align sales revenue with crude oil purchase obligations, which are currently in U.S. dollars. The company explained that the value of petroleum products sold in naira has exceeded the amount of naira-denominated crude received, necessitating a temporary shift in the sales currency.

Addressing rumors circulating online, the refinery dismissed claims of ticketing fraud, assuring that its systems remain robust and free from fraudulent activities.

Dangote Refinery reiterated its commitment to serving the Nigerian market efficiently and stated that once it receives crude oil allocations priced in naira from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), sales in the local currency will resume. The company expressed appreciation for customers’ understanding and cooperation during this period.
