Aregbesola Appointed Interim National Secretary of African Democratic Congress (ADC)

By Erewunmi Peace

Former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has been appointed as the Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a major political development ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The appointment was announced during a high-level meeting of the ADC National Caucus held in Abuja on Monday, July 1, 2025. Aregbesola will serve alongside Senator David Mark, a former Senate President, who was named the party’s Interim National Chairman.

The leadership shake-up is part of the ADC’s broader rebranding and repositioning effort aimed at establishing itself as a viable alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties. The new team is expected to steer the party’s affairs as it prepares for its national convention and builds momentum toward 2027.

In his acceptance speech, Aregbesola emphasized the need for values-driven politics in Nigeria. “Our political system needs ideological clarity and moral direction. The ADC presents an opportunity to redefine public service and leadership,” he said.

Political analysts believe this move could signal a significant shift in Nigeria’s political dynamics, especially with the combination of Aregbesola’s grassroots influence and Senator Mark’s national reach.

The ADC also announced plans to unveil a nationwide membership drive, policy framework, and youth inclusion strategy in the coming weeks.
