Atiku, David Mark, PDP Leaders Urge Nigerians to Join Forces in Unseating APC in 2027

By Erewunmi Peace

Prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark, have called on Nigerians to rally together in a united front to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

This call to action was made during a strategic closed-door meeting held in Abuja on Monday, July 1, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel. The meeting was attended by key PDP stakeholders, including former governor of Jigawa State Sule Lamido, ex-National Chairman Uche Secondus, and several National Executive Committee (NEC) members.

In a communiqué released after the meeting, the party stalwarts expressed grave concern over the state of the nation under APC leadership, citing insecurity, economic hardship, and misgovernance as major failures of the Tinubu administration.

“The country is drifting and Nigerians must come together — regardless of party lines — to rescue the nation from collapse,” the communiqué read. “We urge all democratic forces, progressive-minded individuals, and civil society groups to join us in this coalition to save Nigeria.”

Atiku, who has remained vocal about the need for a united opposition, reiterated that the only viable way to reclaim Nigeria’s future is through collective action and political synergy. The leaders also hinted at the formation of a broad-based coalition, which may extend beyond the PDP, to include other political parties and interest groups with shared values.

David Mark, who presided over the meeting, emphasized that the 2027 elections offer Nigerians a unique opportunity to change the course of the nation through the ballot box.
