Tinubu Appoints IBB’s Son, Muhammad Babangida, as Chairman of Bank of Agriculture

By Erewunmi Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, the first son of former military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), as the Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

The announcement was made on Thursday, July 18, as part of a broader restructuring of key federal agencies aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s agricultural and economic sectors.

According to a statement released by the Presidency, the appointment is part of President Tinubu’s strategy to “ensure the effective implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” with a focus on enhancing food security and empowering rural farmers.

Muhammad Babangida is expected to bring a blend of experience and legacy influence to the Bank of Agriculture, which plays a critical role in financing agricultural ventures across the country.

The appointment has sparked a range of reactions, with some observers noting it marks a return to national prominence for the Babangida family, decades after IBB’s exit from power.

Other newly appointed officials include Dr. Mainoma Mohammed as the Managing Director of BOA and several others heading major government institutions.

This development is seen as part of Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to retool critical sectors with trusted allies and capable technocrats.
