Osun 2026: Governor Adeleke Denies Defection Rumors, Affirms Loyalty to PDP

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has firmly denied widespread rumors suggesting he plans to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
In a statement released on Friday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor described the reports as “false, misleading, and politically motivated.” He reiterated his full commitment to the PDP and its progressive ideals.
“There is no iota of truth in the rumor. Governor Adeleke remains a proud leader of the PDP and is focused on delivering his administration’s mandate to the people of Osun State,” the statement read.
The clarification comes amid rising political tension in Osun State, with speculations fueled by online publications and political actors suggesting a possible realignment ahead of the 2026 elections.
Governor Adeleke, who came into power under the PDP platform in 2022, has consistently emphasized party unity and developmental governance. His administration has initiated key infrastructural projects, youth empowerment schemes, and civil service reforms that have drawn praise across party lines.
Political observers believe the defection rumors are part of a larger strategy to destabilize the PDP’s stronghold in the state. The Osun State PDP leadership also issued a statement in solidarity with the governor, dismissing the defection claims as an “orchestrated distraction.”
“Our governor is going nowhere. The PDP remains solid in Osun, and our focus is on governance and preparing for a victorious outing in 2026,” said Sunday Bisi, Osun PDP Chairman.
As the 2026 gubernatorial race draws closer, Adeleke is expected to seek a second term. He has called on residents and supporters to ignore fake news and continue to support his administration’s developmental strides.
