Police Foil Attempted Installation of Fake ‘Obi of Lagos,’ Arrest Four Suspects

By Erewunmi Peace

The Lagos State Police Command has foiled an attempted installation of a self-proclaimed “Obi of Lagos” and arrested four suspects in connection with the incident.

According to the police, the prime suspect, Engr. Chibuike Azubike (65), allegedly paraded himself as the “Obi of Lagos State.” He was arrested alongside three accomplices identified as Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41).

The group was reportedly planning to unveil a ₦1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” and conduct an installation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin, before security operatives intervened.

Acting on intelligence, the police deployed tactical teams, including the Eko Strike Force, to the venue. The operation successfully halted the planned event and prevented what authorities described as a potential disruption of public peace.

Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, warned the public to be cautious of impostors seeking to exploit traditional titles for personal or financial gain.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
