Chekwas Okorie: No Candidate Will Win Nigeria’s Presidency Without Igbo Support If We Unite

By Erewunmi Peace

Chief Chekwas Okorie, pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has declared that if the Igbo people unite and strategize, no candidate will emerge victorious in a presidential election in Nigeria without their support.

Speaking at the Igbo Agenda Dialogue in Abuja, Okorie stressed the need for political cohesion among Igbos, saying disunity has weakened their influence in national politics.

“It stands to reason that if we put our acts together, nobody will win a presidential election in Nigeria without sitting down with the Igbo to agree on the terms of engagement,” he said.

Okorie further stated that any presidential aspirant seeking the support of the Igbo in the 2027 general election must sign a binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guarantee their commitments to the region.

He warned that the era of empty promises was over and urged Igbo leaders to insist on clear agreements to ensure fair treatment and development for the South-East.

The Igbo Agenda Dialogue, attended by prominent leaders and stakeholders from the region, focused on strategies to secure political relevance and unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

This comes amid rising discussions on zoning, power rotation, and the role of the South-East in Nigeria’s political future.
