A dismissed police officer has been arrested in Lagos State after allegedly promoting himself and resuming duty at the Ejigbo Division of the Lagos State Police Command.
According to a report by P.M. Express, the officer, identified as Olabode Momoh, was dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force in 2005. He allegedly procured forged transfer documents, promoted himself to the rank of Inspector, and resumed official duties at the command.
The report states that Momoh was discovered and arrested before being arraigned in court on charges of impersonation under the Lagos State Criminal Law. He reportedly pleaded not guilty, and the court granted him bail while ordering him to return to prison custody pending the fulfillment of bail conditions.
As of press time, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official statement confirming or denying the incident. Major national news outlets are yet to independently verify the details.
The case has raised questions about internal monitoring systems within the police force and how a dismissed officer could allegedly operate undetected for a period of time.
