There was widespread jubilation in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State as Governor Babagana Umara Zulum announced a special support package for families of newly enrolled students.
During the inauguration of the Higher Islamic College in Gajiganna, the governor revealed that fathers of 90 students would receive ₦250,000 each, while mothers would receive ₦50,000 each.
In addition, each student will be given ₦50,000 and free daily meals to encourage school attendance. Zulum also awarded scholarships to nine girls who performed enrollment songs at the event.
Governor Zulum explained that the initiative was designed to boost school enrollment in rural communities and reduce the financial burden on parents.
“We are committed to making education attractive and accessible. Supporting both parents and students is a way to ensure every child gets a chance to learn,” he said.
The governor further emphasized that investing in education is a crucial strategy for tackling poverty and building resilience in communities affected by insurgency.
This move has been widely praised as another bold step in Zulum’s ongoing educational reforms in Borno State.
