Lagos Court Sentences Mortgage Banker Gbajabiamila to 20 Years for ₦31m Property Fraud

A Lagos High Court has sentenced Sulaiman Olayiwola Gbajabiamila, a mortgage banker, to 20 years imprisonment for defrauding a client of ₦31 million in a fraudulent property transaction and forging a bank manager’s cheque.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed the conviction on Monday, August 25, 2025, stating that Gbajabiamila was found guilty on multiple counts, including obtaining money under false pretenses and forgery.
According to the anti-graft agency, the banker collected ₦31 million from the victim under the pretext of helping secure a property in Lagos but failed to deliver on the agreement. Investigations revealed that he also forged a Sterling Bank Manager’s cheque to further the fraudulent deal.
Justice [Insert Judge’s Name if available] sentenced Gbajabiamila to 20 years after finding him guilty on all counts. The judge emphasized the need for financial institutions to uphold integrity and warned individuals against engaging in fraudulent schemes.
The EFCC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against property-related scams and to report suspicious transactions promptly.
