By Erewunmi Peace

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully carried out an airstrike on a notorious bandit stronghold in Pauwa Hill, Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, rescuing 76 kidnapped victims, including women and children.

The operation, which took place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, was targeted at the hideout of a notorious bandit leader known as Babaro. According to Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, the precision strike followed credible intelligence reports on the location of the criminals and their captives.

“Our coordinated effort with the Nigerian Air Force has led to the successful neutralization of armed terrorists and the rescue of 76 innocent victims. Sadly, we lost one child during the process, but this mission saved dozens of lives,” the commissioner said.

The rescued individuals were among those abducted during the recent attack in Unguwan Mantau (Gidan Mantau) area of Malumfashi LGA, which claimed multiple lives. Security officials confirmed that the victims have been handed over to authorities and are receiving medical attention and counseling.

Intensified Military Operations

The NAF disclosed that the airstrike was part of an ongoing campaign combining air and ground operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in Katsina and neighboring states. The strike reportedly destroyed several bandit structures and neutralized many fighters at the location.

Authorities assured residents that more raids would follow as part of efforts to restore peace and security in the region.

Katsina State and other parts of Northwest Nigeria have suffered repeated attacks from bandits targeting rural communities, leading to mass kidnappings and loss of lives. The latest operation is seen as a significant victory in the fight against insurgency and banditry.
