NSA Ribadu Counters El-Rufai, Denies Allegations of Bandit Incentives

By Erewunmi Peace

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has strongly dismissed allegations by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that the Federal Government is incentivizing bandits as part of its security strategy.

Ribadu described the claims as “false, baseless, and deeply insulting”, insisting that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has never paid ransom or offered any form of inducement to bandits.

“Such statements are reckless and capable of undermining the sacrifices of our security forces. The government is committed to a holistic and law-driven approach to end insecurity,” Ribadu stated.

He explained that the government’s anti-banditry strategy combines kinetic operations (military offensives) with community engagement, which has yielded significant progress in Kaduna and other states. Ribadu cited the improved security situation in Igabi, Birnin Gwari, and Giwa local government areas as proof of the success of current measures.

The NSA urged political leaders to avoid statements that could “embolden criminal elements” or mislead the public, reiterating the administration’s determination to restore peace and stability across the country.
