Osun APC Accuses NBA of Meddling in Local Government Allocation Dispute

By Erewunmi Peace
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has strongly criticized the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for allegedly meddling in the ongoing controversy over local government council allocations in the state.
In a statement, the APC described the NBA’s intervention as a “devious role” and labeled the association a “meddlesome interloper” in what it considers a political and legal issue beyond the NBA’s jurisdiction.
The backlash comes after the NBA wrote to the Attorney General of the Federation, demanding the immediate release of withheld allocations to the 30 local government councils in Osun. The NBA argued that withholding funds is unconstitutional and violates democratic principles.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, however, commended the NBA’s stance, praising the association and the Osun Council of Obas for supporting the call to release the funds. Adeleke maintained that the removal of APC-backed local government officials was a court decision, and that the current PDP-elected officials have been in office since February 2025.
Key Background
The NBA recently petitioned the Federal Government, stating that continued withholding of LG allocations is illegal.
APC insists NBA is overstepping its mandate and should “stop playing politics” with the issue.
Governor Adeleke reaffirmed that there is no legal basis for withholding funds and urged the federal authorities to comply.
What’s Next?
As tensions rise, all eyes remain on the Attorney General’s response and whether the Federal Government will release the withheld allocations.
