Police Summon El-Rufai, ADC Chieftains in Kaduna

By Erewunmi Peace

Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and several leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have been summoned by the Kaduna State Police Command over allegations of criminal conspiracy and incitement.

According to an invitation letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Uzainu Abdullahi, the ex-governor and seven other party chieftains are expected to appear before investigators at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025.

Those listed in the summons include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (popularly known as “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (alias “Mikiya”).

The police said the invitation was linked to allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt during recent political activities in Kaduna.

However, some of the ADC leaders claim they only became aware of the summons through media reports and had not been formally served as of Friday.

El-Rufai, in his reaction, described the police action as “a dangerous descent into lawlessness”, insisting that neither he nor the party officials had violated any constitutional provisions. He argued that the move was politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices in the state.

The development comes in the wake of heightened political tension in Kaduna, following violent disruptions at an ADC meeting, which party leaders allege was attacked by government-sponsored thugs.

The Kaduna Police Command has yet to issue a detailed statement beyond the invitation letter.
