President Tinubu Launches New Personal Income Tax Calculator for Nigerians

By Erewunmi Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially unveiled a Personal Income Tax (PIT) Calculator to help Nigerians estimate their tax obligations under the country’s newly signed tax reforms.

The digital tool, launched on Friday, is designed to promote tax transparency and enable citizens to understand how the 2025 Tax Reform Acts—set to take effect in January 2026—will impact their earnings.

According to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the calculator allows users to simulate and compare their current personal income tax payments with the new rates, ensuring that individuals and businesses can plan ahead for compliance.

President Tinubu emphasized that the new tax laws and the calculator are not intended to punish low-income earners, but to create a fair, progressive, and inclusive tax system that supports economic growth.

“This tool reflects our commitment to transparency and fairness. Every Nigerian deserves to know how much tax they are paying and why,” Tinubu stated during the unveiling.

The calculator is available via the official fiscal reforms portal: fiscalreforms.ng/pit-calculator.

Background on Tax Reforms

The 2025 Tax Reform Acts, signed into law on June 26, 2025, introduced significant changes to Nigeria’s tax framework, including new personal income tax thresholds, rates, and compliance measures. These reforms aim to:

Simplify the tax system for individuals and businesses

Increase revenue generation for national development

Protect low-income earners through progressive taxation

Experts believe the calculator will help Nigerians understand their tax obligations ahead of the 2026 implementation date, reducing confusion and enhancing compliance.
