Several Lives Lost as Dangote Truck Reportedly Crushes People to Death in Enugu

By Erewunmi Peace

Tragedy struck on Wednesday at the Four Corner junction along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway as a cement-laden Howo truck, bearing the Dangote logo, rammed into multiple vehicles, leaving at least 10 people dead and 10 others injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck lost control before colliding with a Toyota Corolla, a Foton bus, and a mini-bus. The impact was devastating, with several victims confirmed dead at the scene.

Police Clarify Ownership

The Enugu State Police Command later revealed that investigations showed the vehicle was owned by Visco Investment Global Limited, not Dangote Industries Limited as initially reported.

“The truck involved in the accident does not belong to Dangote. It belongs to Visco Investment Global Ltd,” police investigators confirmed.

Dangote Responds

Reacting to the reports, Dangote Industries Limited issued a statement distancing itself from the crash. The company expressed condolences to the families of victims while stressing that the vehicle was not part of its fleet.

“We sympathize deeply with the victims and their families. However, the truck in question is not ours. We will work with authorities to ensure proper branding oversight and prevent misuse of our company identity,” the statement read.

Casualty Figures

Conflicting reports initially circulated online, with some outlets claiming an entire family was wiped out. However, police and emergency officials have confirmed 10 fatalities and 10 injuries so far.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have commenced full investigations into the cause of the crash and have vowed to hold those responsible accountable.
