Tinubu Mourns The Nation’s Journalist Evelyn Osagie

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Miss Evelyn Osagie, an Assistant Editor at The Nation newspaper, who died on Sunday, August 17, 2025, after a brief illness.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, President Tinubu described Osagie as a dedicated and creative journalist who left an indelible mark on arts and culture reporting in Nigeria. He praised her commitment to using journalism as a tool for promoting literature, poetry, and advocacy for women and children.

“Evelyn Osagie was not only a fine journalist but a passionate storyteller who amplified the voices of the less privileged. Her death is a painful loss to the Nigerian media and the cultural community,” the President said.

The President extended condolences to The Nation Newspaper, her family, colleagues, and friends, urging them to find comfort in the legacy of excellence she left behind.

Evelyn Osagie, 49, was widely recognized for her exceptional work in arts and culture reporting. She was also a poet and activist who championed gender equality and children’s rights. Until her death, she served as Assistant Editor (Arts and Life) at The Nation.

Tributes have continued to pour in from media practitioners, rights advocates, and the literary community, all describing her as a vibrant voice who used journalism to inspire and create impact.
