Abia Governor Alex Otti Defects from Labour Party to APC

By Erewunmi Peace

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially left the Labour Party (LP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Otti, who was previously closely associated with former presidential candidate Peter Obi, cited the APC’s “clearer vision and stronger commitment to national development” as his reason for switching parties.

In a statement, Otti emphasized that his decision reflects a desire for progress and collaboration with any platform capable of advancing Nigeria’s growth and stability.

The defection has generated widespread political discourse, especially considering Otti’s prior alignment with LP. However, conflicting reports have emerged, with Otti reportedly denying rumors of leaving the Labour Party, asserting that he remains committed to the party and is unshaken by political pressures.

Political analysts suggest that Otti’s decision may be strategic as the 2027 elections approach, highlighting the fluidity of party politics in Nigeria.
