Katsina: 143 Kidnap Victims Rescued as Bandits Surrender Arms
By Erewunmi Peace
Authorities in Katsina State have announced the rescue of 143 kidnap victims from various local government areas, following intensified security operations against bandit groups.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, disclosed this during a security consultation meeting in Katsina on Tuesday.
According to him, the coordinated operations have also led to a significant drop in criminal activities across the state. He said banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling had reduced by about 70 percent in recent months.
Dr. Mu’azu further revealed that several bandit groups had expressed readiness to surrender their weapons and embrace peace. This, he noted, was part of ongoing efforts by the state government to restore security and stability in rural communities.
The commissioner commended security agencies, local vigilante groups, and community leaders for their collaboration in ensuring the success of the rescue operations.
Katsina, like many states in Nigeria’s northwest, has faced persistent challenges from armed bandit groups, with residents often subjected to kidnappings, extortion, and displacement. The latest development is seen as a positive step in the state’s fight against insecurity.
